Simon Says Stamp and Show a Hat!

Hi ya! Thank you for playing along with last week's challenge ... The winners will be announced this Wednesday .... so don't forget to check back ... this could be your week! This week Simon Says Stamp and Show ... a Hat! If you want to join in the fun ... all you need to do is ... create something that ties in with our theme ... pop it on your blog ... and come back here and link up so everyone can see what you made! To start you on your way... take a look at some inspiration from the Design Team ...
While making this piece I ended up humming the same song over and over again ... Can you tell what it is yet? I used Studio 490 Art Parts; Some Idea-ology and Distress Stains. The yummy hounds tooth paper is from the Graphic45 Botanicabella collection.
Nancy's really got "spring" on her mind, so she created a Easter bonnet, using Claudine Hellmuth's Sticky-Back Canvas to cover a top hat made from cardstock. A bit of Melissa Frances' vintage crepe paper, some Ranger Platinum Stickles, a "chocolate" Grungeboard bunny - and a new tabletop decoration's made for Easter!

Sarah went for a humorous twist on Mother’s Day with her canvas. She stamped, embossed and crowned her Diva using Tim's Pattern Pieces and then colour-washed using Claudia Helmuth paints. Her trusty Distress Inks and tool were put to good use on Jenny Bowlin papers and two Memo-pins made the perfect TV antenna! Read more on Sarah's blog...

Terry made a Top Hat for a Bride. The hat is worked on with the Graphic 45 paperpad, Steampunk Debutante, distressed with Vintage Photo, Victorian Velvet and Fired Brick. The flowers are from The Tim Holtz Tattered Florals, the lace is worked on with distress inks and the butterfly is from a punch. For more details you can visit her blog.
A hat you say.......well this challenge had Lynne a bit stumped....then she caught a picture of Kate Middleton and one of her "bonnets" and had a brainstorm. So, she pulled out her Distress Stains, Vintage Glitter Glass, Sticky Back Canvas, a Jump Ring, Princesca Hardware and Wendy Vecchi ~ Art Rules Stamps! And there you have it........A FLOWER HAT card!
Candy's whimsical hat for this week's challenge was primarily fashioned out of Graphic 45 "Le Cirque" papers. All of the circus posters and clowns are taken from the beautiful graphics on these papers. The clowns are all highlighted in Stickles to show off their costumes. The flowers popping out of the top of the hat and around the brim are mainly cut from Tim Holtz' Tattered Flowers die.

When is a hat not a hat? When it's a Fashionista crown! This simple crown is all decked out and ready for the next cropping party or wedding shower with Stickles adorning the Graphic 45 paper.
Lori chose to give her "art girl" a saucy little hat. She used Studio 490 stamps from It's Face Art and A Form of Art, grungeboard wings cut with the Heart and Wings die, a Silver paint dabber and Black Enamel Accents to also give her some "attitude"!

While thinking about this week's challenge Dan was inspired by images from Alice in Wonderland, A Clockwork Orange and Magritte, which he has combined together into this quirky printer's tray! Products used included the Lost and Found and Retro Grunge card stacks, tissue tape and Multi Medium Matte.

Daughter will be three in a week so decided to create a vintage inspired party hat... she collaged the cone with strips torn from 7 Gypsies Victoria Paper and old book pages applied with Claudine Helmuth's Matte Medium. Then Embellished with a few Tattered Angel goodies, like the Framed Fonts, glimmer screen, Tim Holtz Heart wings for the crown and used floral stamp. Finished with a frayed top and gathered crepe trim.

Linda's hat is a an Easter bonnet.  She recycled a straw hat that her daughter had years ago, stripping off all the embellishments and creating a riot of spring flowers made with crinoline cut with the Tim Holtz Tattered Florals die and dyed with reinkers.  For the flower centers she coated jumbo brads with vintage gold glass glitter and micro beads.  Her eggs started life as colored plastic eggs which she primed with Claudine Helmuth's Gesso and then covered with spring inspired fabric using Claudine Helmuth's Multi-Medium Matte.

Simon Says Stamp and Show a Word!

Hello Everybody! Thank you for playing along with last week's challenge ... The winners will be announced this Wednesday .... so don't forget to check back ... this could be your lucky week! This week Simon Says Stamp and Show ... a word! If you want to join in the fun ... all you need to do is ... create something that ties in with our theme ... pop it on your blog ... and come back here and link up so everyone can see what you made! To start you on your way... take a look at some inspiration from the Design Team ...
Nancy Crissinger
Who doesn't think of "Paris" in the springtime? Nancy's shadowbox card uses an image cut from Graphic45's Times Nouveau paper along with Tim Holtz's Mini City Central & French Marketplace sets.
Linda Elbourne
The word I have chosen is "Play". And that is exactly what I did! I played with Wendy Vecchi Art Parts; Borders and Bottles and Creative Covers! I also used a Tim Holtz Ideaology large Ring Binder and some Claudine Hellmuth Sticky Backed Canvas to create my little journal.

Terry used the word "LOVE" because there is a lot of love in her girls. They are her pride and joy. She worked on the canvas with Distress inks, Vintage Photo, Fired Brick, Victiorian Velvet and Tattered Rose. The beautifull butterflies are from The Wendy Vecchi, Just Fly and are also worked on with Distress inks and Glossy Accents. She placed a few roses and used some stickles on the borders, the swirl is from The Tim Holtz Idea-ology Grungeboard elements.
Sarah's word is 'Home'. Five words actually...There's no place like home. The week's events reminded Sarah how thankful she is to have a safe home. Various old book pages have been stamped using Tim's Holtz's Urban Chic and Pattern Pieces range, then sealed with Claudine Helmuth's Matte Medium. Sarah then made five origami houses and adorned them with embellishments and words typed onto Sticky-Back Canvas also by Claudine. The houses were fixed to an old wooden slat which has also been stamped with Tim's stamps and Sepia Archival Ink. The flower was made from vintage dress-pattern paper and Grunge Paper. Sarah used the Tattered Florals die and Distress Inks (Rusty Hinge and Brushed Corduroy) for colour. To finish Glossy Accents was use to glue on some rusty nails!. More photos and details can found on Sarah's blog.
For Dan's dream-y card he started by covering his card base with randomly placed pieces of torn tissue tape, which he then covered with espresso and red pepper paint dabbers applied with kitchen paper. The butterfly from Tim Holtz's Spring Sprung stamp set was stamped on the painted background with Memento Tuxedo Black ink, then over-painted with white paint dabber applied with an artist's paintbrush, coloured with marker pens and restamped. The piece was edged with Walnut Stain distress ink. The letters are cut from the Lost and Found card stack and covered with glossy accents for extra shine. Finally, the mat was cut from the Retro Grunge card stack.
and LOVE it is......LOVE of Canvas Corp 4 x 4 Canvas, LOVE of Distress Stains, Fired Brick, Peeled Paint, Broken China, Wild Honey, LOVE of Distress Stickles, LOVE of Dew Drops, LOVE of Tissue Tape.......oh all the LOVE!!
Spring is Nancy's word. Spring = flowers = Wendy Vecchi. So she began with a canvas and painted it with watercolors and a water brush. Once dry, Nancy stamped leaf images from Studio 490's Nature's Art using Ranger Coffee Archival Ink before coloring the leaves in with Distress Re-Inkers in three shades of green. Studio 490 Art Parts were stamped with Art From The Heart background stamp and painted with Claudine Hellmuth's Studio Paints before adding a bit of color with the watercolors. Nancy added a a tiny bottle, tag and one teeny fairy to watch over the entire Spring growing process.
Candy's word is "WINGS". Her piece incorporates several things that she loves with wings...birds, butterflies and Angels. Candy used Pink Paislee's new Butterfly Wings paper to create this darling little birdcage. The front of the cage is made from Tim Holtz' On The Edge Scallop die cut. The bars on the cage were fashioned from pale organza ribbon that was threaded onto a gold wire and attached to the back of the birdcage with 1/4" Wonder Tape. The little vintage black and white Angels were colorized using various colors of Distress Inks and Cut 'N Dry Pen Nibs. Detailing on the Angels' dresses was done with the NEW Tropical Tangerine and Eucalyptus Stickles. The bouquet on the top of the birdcage was fashioned from little pink roses and Prima's Teal Mini Roses. The white ribbon was sprayed with Pink Bubblegum and Vanilla Breeze Glimmer Mist to get just the right vintage pink combination of color. Pop on over to Candy's blog for all the details in how she created her "WINGS".
Lori chose the word "CROWN", for this humorous layout of some pictures from the cruise where Tim Holtz was the art instructor. The Fabulous Flourish stamp adds some detail to the background using Coffee Archival Ink. The sentiments are stamps from the Studio 490 stamp set entitled Regal Art, and are embossed with Black Soot Distress Embossing Powder. And, Tim's "crown" is one of his own stamps, from Mini Ornates! How cool is that? And how about some rosettes using the Rosette and Mini Rosette dies?
Easter is Linda's word and she used it to make a seasonal home decor item, a jumbo refrigerator magnet featuring vintage images, tulle, crinoline and lace.  Products used include Claudine Hellmuth Multi Medium MatteTim Holtz Tattered Florals DieGold Alcohol Ink MixativeVintage Photo and Antique Linen Distress Inks.
Kim decided to alter an old book, After creating an opening at the front she collaged the cover with strips torn from old book pages and applied with Claudine Helmuth's Matte Medium. Then coloured with Aged Mahogany, Black Soot and Walnut stain DI. The central torn pages have been inked with a little vintage photo. The main image is from Tim's Papillon Stamps and sprayed with a little Heirloom gold perfect pearls mist. The flower is made using Tim's tattered florals die, the leaves from Wendy's stamp and both cut from the Lost and Found card stack. The Bookplate has been covered with sticky metal foil tape, adhered to grungeboard, embossed and aged with paint dabbers.

Simon Says Stamp and Show Some Stars!

Hello Everybody! Thank you for playing along with last week's challenge ... The winners will be announced this Wednesday .... so don't forget to check back ... this could be your lucky week!
This week Simon Says Stamp and Show ... some Stars! If you want to join in the fun ... all you need to do is ... create something that ties in with our theme ... pop it on your blog ... and come back here and link up so everyone can see what you made! To start you on your way... take a look at some inspiration from the Design Team ...

Nancy's niece recently shared this picture of Nancy's brother-in-law & his brother, taken about 56 years ago, as they walked in a 4th of July parade. How apropos for a "Star" theme! The 2 base pieces are Wendy Vecchi's Squares & Frames (large) - the back one covered with Tim Holtz's Idea-ology Seasonal Paper Stash. The Maya Road Trinket Star pins, colored with Ranger Alcohol Inks, are exploding out of a Idea-ology Seasonal Salvage Sticker. Tim's Mini Rosette Die Cut used with Cosmo Cricket's Circa 1934 Mini Deck adds a dash of color over Wendy's Art Parts Scallops, which was stamped Wendy's Gentleman's Art.
After being wowwed by the Red Carpet and the Oscars, Sarah has taken a fun trip back to 1950's Hollywood. She used Claudine Helmuth's Matte Medium and Gesso to prepare her collaged background. The film-strip has been created by using the Bind-it-All and stamping graduated images onto Ranger Glossy Cardstock. The larger hand-cut stars, letters and ephemera have been aged using Vintage Photo and Aged Mahogany Distress Inks. The glasses were stamped and embossed using Denim Adirondack embossing powder. The roses were made with various Jenny Bowlin papers and a vintage magazine page, colour-washed with Claudine Helmuth's Studio paints. Vintage buttons, tickets and ric-rac finish the piece. See Sarah's blog for more details.
This is actually Dan's 2nd project for this challenge, he decided he didn't like the first one and went back to square one! He lightly "limed" the wood frame by painting it white and then sanding most of the paint off. He covered the box with a sheet from Tim Holtz's Retro Grunge card stack and trimmed the edges with tissue tape. The panels were coloured with paint dabbers applied with a wet wipe to spread the colour out more and give a lined effect. The edges of each panel were distressed with Walnut Stain Distress Ink. Stamp sets used included Bitty Grunge, Winged Things II, Regal Findings, and Steampunk, all by Tim Holtz@Stampers Anonymous.
For this weeks challenge Lynne created a banner. The base of the banner was created with Canvas Corp ~ Canvas Stars and Burlap Tags. To strengthen the burlap tag she painted on Matte Multi Medium. The stars were colored using Butterscotch and Red Pepper Color Wash along with Vintage Photo Distress Stain. She also die cut flourishes from denim. Wild Plum, Purple Twilight and Sunset Orange Color Wash were used to color the various diecut textile flowers. OHHHHH do you see the Tim Holtz Alpha Parts????? They helped finish off the banner quite nicely!!
This week's Challenge ... "SOME STARS" took Candy to a nostalgic place. She created this 8x10 shadowbox in remembrance of her Dad, a proud WWII Navy veteran. The images used in this piece are copied photos of her father and his actual military cards. The pictures and cards were scanned and sized to fit perfectly in this shadowbox. A Tim Holtz Mini Paper Clip holds his military cards together. Candy created single and double rosettes using Tim Holtz' Paper Rosette Flower Strip Die Cut and layering papers to achieve different sizes. Some are even cut in half. They are distressed with Faded Jeans Distress Ink. The pictures are made to look old by layering Vintage Photo, Walnut Stain and Black Soot Distress Inks. All the items in the shadowbox are mounted with Wonder Tape or Multi Matte Medium.
This week, Nancy's project is dedicated to her friend's son who is serving in the United States Army and currently deployed to Iraq. Nancy began with an ordinary book cut into a star shape. Using Claudine Hellmuth's Matte Medium, the pages were adhered together before painting the edges with a Gold Dabber. The stars are stamped with an image from Rockstar using Fired Brick Distress Ink. The stripes are hand painted with Stormy Sky Distress Re-Inker and Claudine Hellmuth's Studio Art paint brushes. The frame is finished off with a Viva Decor Pearl Pen, a Maya Road star pin, Tim Holtz Adage tickets and some TPC ribbon.

Lori decided to go with one of Tim's signature stamps, Umbrella Man, from the Life's Possibilities clear stamp sets, in a rectangle Art Part frame and backing for this week's project. The sentiment that goes along perfectly with this image is from Tim's Good Thoughts stamp set. She added some stars embossed with silver embossing powder being poured from an "inspiration" bottle made with Clearly for Art and a Studio 490 stamp from the Art Inspiration set.
When she learned that this week's challenge was stars, a western theme immediately came to Linda's mind She spent some time tracking down vintage western images and created this collage using numerous Tim Holtz/Ranger products including Espresso and Snow Cap Acrylic paints, Vintage Photo Distress Ink and Distress Embossing Powder, Ginger Alcohol Ink and a Muse Token. She also had fun using a lot of Ten Seconds Studio metal.
Kim
For this weeks challenge Kim thought she would try something a little 'different'... Inspired by The Kelly Rae Roberts Angels she went to work collaging her own. The dress was made from natural sticky back canvas, then stamped with Wendy Vecchi and Tim Holtz stamps you might just see a few of the stars. The colour is a blend of Crushed Olive and Broken china DI. Her skin also from natural sticky back canvas, was tinted with distress stains. Her wings are cut using heart wings die and embellished with mica flakes. Her hair was cut from old book pages and coloured with Walnut stain and vintage photo DI. She holds a chipboard star and on her wrist is a Star adornment on a charm clip.
I covered every eventuality with my piece this week ... stamped stars; Art Part star border and Charlie Chaplin! It is not often any more that I fall in love with paper ... but Graphic 45 Curtain Call  has really got me! I LOVE it! I have used several different Wendy Vecchi Art Parts ... Large Square Frame; Borders and Bottles; Sample Pack and For the guys. I also used Studio 490 Gentlemen's Art stamps and Tim's Steam Punk set.

Simon Says Stamp and Show Some Metal!

Hello One, Hello All!  Thank you for playing along with last week's challenge ... The winners will be announced this Wednesday .... so don't forget to check back ... this could be your lucky week!
This week Simon Says Stamp and Show ... some Metal! If you want to join in the fun ... all you need to do is ... create something that ties in with our theme ... pop it on your blog ... and come back here and link up so everyone can see what you made! To start you on your way... take a look at some inspiration from the Design Team ...
Lynne Forsythe
hhhhmmm "some Metal" you say.....well Lynne wondered if you could use a border punch with Ten Second Studio Metal....and by golly you can, that was how she created her roof for her "Spring Themed" bird house. She covered the house with G45 Once Upon A Springtime papers using Multi Medium. See her flowers, the stems are Memo Pins with various flower heads attached with Glossy Accents. Are you loving the whimsical Wings....the total finishing touch to her bird house.
Linda let the metal do all the fancy work on this otherwise simple card. Using the mocha metal from Ten Seconds Studio she embossed it with the Big Daddy Baroque Metal Mold and a paper stump blending tool. The simple paper flower was made with the Tim Holtz Tattered Florals Die and the stamp on the tag is from the Crafty Secrets Sweet Kids stamp set.
Candy chose to combine all sorts of metal embellishments to create this victorian/steampunkish dress form piece. The skirt is five of Tim Holtz' bird cage die cuts wired together. The skirt and the shoulders are adorned with metal chains, and combinations of leaves and flowers from Tim Holtz' Foliage Ideaology and the smallest flower from Tim's Tattered Flowers die cut. At the bottom of the skirt, more metal...from Tim Holtz' Ideaology line. The Maya Road Small Organza Ribbon Roses on the skirt and shoulders are sprayed with Perfect Pearls Mist Copper Glimmer Spray.
This week's challenge got Nancy thinking about Ten Seconds Studio metals again. The frame is an on-sale $1 frame, painted with a brown dabber, then inlaid Ten Seconds Studio Chocolate metal after running it through the Big Shot with a Ten Seconds Studio Kabuka mold. A vintage piece of lace was used to decorate the corner, but it needed some *pop* so used a flower die-cut with Clearly For Art to raise the lace and give it more form. A Tim Holtz metal flower, a pearl brad, a memo pin with an adage ticket and thin strips of metal complete the flower.
Sarah decided upon a triptych where metal meets antique, to celebrate female pioneers in the 1850s. Cardboard packing blocks were collaged with dictionary pages using Claudine Helmuth Matte Multi-Medium and Gesso, stamped with Ranger Coffee Archival ink and Tim Holtz Stamps (Papillion and Urban Chic) and aged with Vintage Photo and Brushed Corduroy Distress Inks. Chip Block Alphabet Letters have been embossed, coloured and distressed by using Ten Seconds Studio metal, Ginger and Caramel Alcohol inks and a sanding block. The Tattered Florals die was used to make the row of rolled paper roses. Sarah used her own collection of bottle-tops, ephemera and findings but also added an Idea-ology Memo Pin. The pieces were finished with lace, ribbons, copper thread and more hand-made flowers. More details and photographs can be found on her blog.
Lori combined Ten Seconds Studio Rock Star Black Metal, Clearly for Art modeling film and Studio 490 stamp sets It's Face Art and Just Sew Artsy to dress up her "stubbie" (aka a chunk of 2 x 4 lumber)!

Kim
Kim decided to try out Ranger's new Metal foil tape sheet by embossing with Tim Holtz Regal Flourish Texture Fade folder. She then used it to cover a memo pad and used pitch black paint dabber to paint all over. Rubbed the paint into the metal with a cloth to bring out the raised design. The printer letter blocks were created using Tim Holtz Idea-ology Grungeboard alphabet soup letters with idea-ology grungeblocks. The same black paint dabber and vintage photo distress ink. Kim brushed a little silver to give the blocks a metalic effect. The cover has been steampunk'd with a few gears and some vintage watch parts. The inside book page has been inked with a little distress stain and Kim finished off the front with metal corners and a hitch fastener as a handle.
Terry decided to make a card with the embossing folder, the Distressed Stripes. She decided to make a metal-look on the top of the card and by using the The Tim Holtz Sizzix Die scroll work on the Edge Alterations, this way she gave the card that metal look. The borders are worked on with the Paper Distresser . She used lace from her own stash, placed the Tim Holtz Idea-ology Grungeboard Elements underneath the image, it is worked on with the Distress embossing ink and Embossing powder. The roses are worked on with Distress Stickles and on top she used a few Brads.
Spring’s just around the corner, right? Nancy C’s really looking forward to flowers blooming in her yard, so she created a spring scene on a tag, using Ten Seconds Studio’s Green metal with Tim Holtz’s On The Fence Sizzix Edge Alteration, Tim Holtz's Flights of Fancy & Mini French Connection Clear Stamps and one of her favorite little girl images.
When he started to create a frame for last week's challenge piece, Dan decided to encrust it with metal embellishments, in keeping with this week's theme. After painting his frame with a mixture of Red Pepper and Espresso paint dabbers Dan sanded it lightly, before raiding his embellishment box! He used Matte Medium to fix the metal onto the frame, and the embellishments he used include a selection from Tim Holtz's Idea-ology Word Keys, Muse Tokens, Pen Nibs, Game Spinners, Adornments, Keyholes, Locket Keys, Philosophy Tags, Sprocket Gears and Type Charms.
When I think metal ... I think Ten Seconds Studio metal ... which is what I have used to decorate this little papier mache box/book blank. After painting the book with Pitch Black Dabber I used Copper metal which I embossed using the Ten Second Studio Time Expressions mold and basic tools set with paper stump. I aged the metal with some more Black Dabber and then set to work playing with one of Wendy Vecchi's new Art Parts ... a few bits of Idea-ology and some Grunge Paper! Would n't it be great if making time really was this easy!
Did n't our new teamies do a fabulous job with their first challenge. Please stop by The Design Team's individual blogs for more detailed pictures and further information on their work...Just click on their names!
