Simon Says Stamp and Show... A Tag!!

Hello to you all ... Dan here, standing in for Linda E while she is teaching on far flung shores :)   Thank you so much to everyone that played along with our last challenge ... The winners will be announced on Wednesday .... so don't forget to check back ... it could be you! This week Simon Says Stamp and Show ... A Tag! Linda E

Linda threw everything at her tag to create her background. She used Distress Inks ... Dabbers ... Rock Candy Stickles ... a mask and finished off with a few Grungepaper embellishments and some Idea-ology bits and pieces. All stamps used are Wendy Vecchi and Tim holtz.

Linda chose to make her tag in sepia tones using lots of Vintage Photo distress ink. The newspaper text background and the vintage images have been sponged with Vintage Photo distress ink. The stars were cut with a Sizzix die out of corrugated cardboard and crinoline. They were sprayed with a mixture of Vintage Photo reinker and Heirloom Gold Perfect Pearls. The star brads were embossed with Antique Linen distress embossing power and a bit of the VP mixture was applied. 

Kim

For Kim, tags are the best way to really experiment and try out new techinques on a smaller scale... So she created a layered tag and thinks fired brick distress ink with copper perfect pearl is STUNNING. Really effective for the perfect distress technique on the large tag and the wings on the grungepaper butterfly. The sentiment has been stamped on sticky back canvas cut using styled labels, inked with distress inks and spritzed with a little distress ink & copper perfect pearls. An extra styled labels tag was cut from the clear acrylic packaging so the butterfly would appear to float. The ball chain was added to give the ability to move  and read the sentiment. The seam binding has been spritzed with glimmer mist and tied to the top. Stamps used are Wendy Vecchi and Tim holtz.

I've really been loving all of the vintage Christmas stamps that Tim Holtz has been bringing out lately - I guess I'm vintage enough that they remind me of childhood Christmases!  I planned to do a lot more to this tag, but when I got to this stage I was loving it so much that I felt I would ruin it by adding more, and decided to let the stamp images shine!  I used Fired Brick Distress Ink, Rock Candy Stickles and one of Tim Holtz's Santas.

Nancy C

After trying a few different combinations of aged, inked backgrounds, Nancy decided to use the direct-to-paper ink application technique, using Walnut Stain Distress Ink, finally achieving the tonal appearance she wanted for her vintage tag. A bit of the same ink was applied to the edges of a piece of vintage ledger paper & a piece of Basic Grey Cappella paper, then the inked areas were spritzed with water to spread the aging. “Believe” from Tim Holtz’ Mini Holidays stamp set was stamped on top of everything with Black Soot, then embossed with Ranger’s Enchanted Gold EP.

Terry

Terry decided to make a XL Christmas Tag including 2 other tags, to give to a loved one for Christmas. She used lots of distress inks from Tim Holtz, including Vintage Photo, Shabby Shutters and Aged Mahogany. The sentiment is from the Basic Grey, Wassail Christmas Collection. The faux stitching was made with an Opaque white Inkssentials pen and Glossy accents by Ranger was used on the embossed flowers that look like little snowflakes. Terry finished it all off with snowflake and flower border embossing folders. The lace with the snowballs are from her own stash. Just like the vintage image on the little tag.

Lynne

Lynne's tag has a bit of a vintage flair to it...She inked her Silhouette Spray stamp with Mustard Seed and Peeled Paint Distress ink...spritzed the inked stamp with water, then stamped on her tag and paper, giving the image a "watercolor" look. The Maya Road flourish was painted with Gesso, embossed using the Collage/Notebook Texture Fade, the high points sanded then inked with Faded Jeans. If you notice....there is Distress Ink everywhere....used in both the pad and liquid form. The tag was accented with a Tim Holtz Corner.

Nancy W

Nancy chose the Bluebird stamp set from Artistic Outpost to use in a cross between a shabby and vintage-style tag. The background is first stamped with Wendy Vecchi's Studio 490 Ticket to Art stamp then overstamped with Studio 490's Berry Tree stamp. You may visit Nancy's blog to see exactly how it was finished.

Lori decided to step out of her comfort zone and do something a little different for her tag! She used all Studio 490 stamps, and decided to go with an arty face! She used a background technique Wendy had posted on her blog HERE, using the Ranger Color Washes in Stream and Butterscotch, and Wendy's background stamp from the Dimensional Rose Art set. Adirondack Dye inks in Espresso, Stream, and Cranberry helped to finish the embellishments!
