Simon Says Stamp and Show a Lord Tim of Holtz Technique!

Blimey ... it's Monday again already ... Thank you so much to all of you that played along with last week's challenge ... The winners will be announced on Wednesday .... so don't forget to check back ... this could be your lucky week! This week Simon Says Stamp and Show ... a Lord Tim of Holtz Technique! I know a lot of you guys that join us each week are Tim Holtz fans like us ... we thought that this challenge would be a great way of Thanking Tim for all the effort he goes to every year imparting his knowledge; inspiration ... and not forgetting a generous amount of his time ... sharing his 12 tags of Christmas. So join us in Thanking him by showing ... what we have learned along the way!
If you want to join in the fun this week ... all you need to do is ... create something that ties in with our theme ... pop it on your blog ... and come back here and link up so everyone can see what you made! The challenge will close next Sunday at Midnight ... and to start you on your way... take a look at what techniques the Design Team have learned from the great man himself ....
Dan has used the embossed resist technique to decorate these cute houses he cut from white cardstock. In addition to the versamark ink pad and clear embossing powder he used, Dan used barn door and pine needles distress ink pads and white enamel accents for snow highlights. Stamps were from Tim Holtz @ Stampers Anonymous.

Distressing rules where Nancy’s concerned, so it just follows that using Tim’s Distress Embossing Powders would be one of her favourite techniques! They can be tricky to use – and sometimes don’t photo so well! – but, what a great effect they create! Santa was stamped with Ranger’s Clear Embossing Ink, then coloured with Distress Embossing Powder in Antique Linen, Peeled Paint, Vintage Photo & Fired Brick. The edges of the card stock & note card are distressed with Walnut Stain Distress Ink, then a German foil accent was added on top of the card stock layers.

Terry has used the emboss technique to alter the heart shaped box. Distress inks to used to colour the box were Aged Mahogany, Victorian Velvet, Vintage Photo. The stamp she used for the embossed swirls is from the Christmas sentiment Odds and Ends with White embossing powder. The stars are from the Tim Holtz Idea-ology grungeboard dots elements set. The little snowflakes are punched out and worked on with Glossy Accents from Inkssentials and Glitz Stickles from Ranger. After she was finished with her project she used the Scrubbie to clean up her inky hands.

Lynne used one of the techniques Tim used on Tag #10 of the 12 Tags of Christmas. She used the Tall Pines Texture Fade and embossed (4) Clear Acrylic Covers. She used a combo of Stonewashed and Denim Alcohol Inks and inked the non~raised side (minus the trees) of the cover. When dry, she stamped Snowflakes with Snow Cap Pigment Ink. On the raised side of the cover, she used Pearl and Silver Metallic Alcohol Inks and snowflakes cut from the Winter Wonder Die. She removed any excess Metallic Alcohol Ink with Ink Blending Solution that may have been on the trees. The trees were coloured on the non raised side with Meadow Alcohol Ink and a paint brush. The final accents include applying Forest Moss and Rock Candy Distress Stickles to the raised trees. The whole luminary was then bound using the Bind It All......she thanks Tim for the inspiration!!!!

With so many technique's to choose from, Nancy says it's really difficult to choose just one. So she chose the one she uses most often - embossing. This time Nancy embossed using Distress Embossing Ink with Distress Embossing Powders to get a vintage look. The two must be used together in order to create this technique. Nancy mixed powders to get her own colour: one part Distress Frayed Burlap Embossing Powder to two parts Distress Broken China Embossing Powder. First, with the caps still on the jars, shake up the Embossing Powders to mix the crystals. Then open the caps and mix the two colours together. Stamp the image on the tag, shake the powders on (and then off) and heat set with a heat gun. Let the embossing cool, then rub your fingers over the embossed image to release some of the crystals.

One of Lori's favourite “Tim techniques” is the Rusted Enamel technique that can be found in Tim's book, “A Compendium of Curiosities”. Her version is a little different than Tim's. She used a 4” x 4” canvas as the base of her project, and Ranger embossing powders in Gold, Copper and Verdigris. A bit of Espresso Paint Dabber was rubbed around the edges. The ornament was cut from grunge board using the Carved Ornament with the “Love” Mover and Shaper Die. Some stickers from the Seasonal Salvage Sticker pack and other holiday embellishments complete the piece.

I have a hard time creating anything without a Lord Tim of Holtz technique on it somewhere ... I have learned so much from him! My card was inspired by Tim's 2010 Christmas Tag number 9 ... which I have to say is my favourite of all time! The background is Brushed Corduroy and Wild Honey swiped on a Craft Sheet and Spritzed with Heirloom Gold Glimmer Spray... Who knew Wild Honey and Brushed Corduroy would look so good together! The Rosette Die was used with Tim's paper stack and the Idea-ology charms were coloured using neat Cranberry alcohol ink ... another gem from Tim's Compendium of Curiosities.

Linda wanted to try a Lord Tim technique that was new to her and went with Shabby Chic (pg. 49 Compendium of Curiosities). After cutting Grunge board with the Snow Flurries On The Edge Alterations die, products used on it include Expresso and Snow Cap Adirondack Acrylic Paint Dabbers, Tim Holtz Mini Holidays stamp set. A flower was made out of Tissue Tape and topped with a button from the Idea-ology Accoutrements. Some Fragment Charms add the finishing touch.

Kim used quite a few of Tim's techniques on her card, mainly inspired from his tag #3 of the 12 Tags of Christmas, used the tissue tape on grunge paper technique but instead of alcohol ink coloured the tissue tape with copic markers, it works beautifully, has a rich colour and the copic ink remains translucent. She then smudged a generous amount of distress stickles rock candy all over. But what Kim really wanted to try is the extreme masking technique... so, die cut tim's branch tree from mask sheet then turned the tree on it's side to become more of a branch. With blending tool, inked tree with distress inks and stamped script in archival black. The bird is nestled in a little christmas green flower soft. She then used Snow Cap Adirondack Acrylic Paint Dabber for the snow flurries. The December label is from the mini holiday stamp set, inked and distressed! The glittery felt flower was created using Tattered florals die, stickles glitter for the edges and a pearl centre.

  3. What a great theme, especially for those of us who were wondering what we'd do this morning with no more Tim tags to inspire us!
